About The FORD EDGE
The Ford Edge was introduced to the line in late-2006. It is classified as a mid-size crossover SUV. The Ford Edge is just one of the five crossover/sports utility vehicles currently in the Ford line up. In addition to the Ford Edge, these include the Ford Escape, Ford Explorer, Ford Flex and Ford Expedition. The platform for the Ford Edge is also used by the Mazda CX-9 crossover and the Ford Fusion, the Mercury Milan and the Lincoln MKZ sedans.
The Ford Edge is currently in its second generation and has seen little in change over the years. The Ford Edge offers four trim levels. The Ford Edge SE base model features: cloth-trimmed seats, single-zone manual air-conditioning, AM/FM Single CD/player, audio input jack, manual tilt/telescoping steering column, four 12-volt power points, power windows with one-touch up/down on driver’s side. Power door locks with auto lock feature, remote keyless entry system, front wheel drive, four-wheel disc Anti-lock Braking System, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, six-speed automatic transmission and a 3.5L twin-independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) V6 engine are also included on the Ford Edge SE. The Ford Edge SE also offers a value package which includes a convenience package, SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Secureicode Keyless Entry Keypad and the Reverse Sensing System.
In addition to the above Ford Edge SE features, the Ford Edge SEL base model includes: a six-way power driver’s seat, dual-zone temperature controls, a SIRIUS Satellite Radio system, leather steering wheel with audio controls and cruise control keys. A personal safety system, a tire pressure monitoring system and SecuriCode keyless entry are included on the Ford Edge SEL. Two value packages are offered for the Ford Edge SE, which offer rear view camera, the SYNC in-car connectivity system, MyFord, two USB ports and an SD card reader. A leather comfort package is also available for the Ford Edge SE model.
When upgrading to the Ford Edge Limited model, standard equipment includes leather-trimmed seats; power, heated driver and passenger seats; ambient lighting, a rear view camera; Sony Audio system with HD radio, MyFord Touch with multiple LCD displays, Ford SYNC and 18-inch chrome clad aluminum wheels. Options for the Ford Edge Limited model include adaptive cruise control and collision warner, and a driver entry package. The Ford Edge Limited model includes a navigation system with Sirius Traffic and Travel Link and a dual-headrest DVD entertainment system amongst other options.
The Ford Edge Sport comes equipped with all of the amenities of the Ford Edge Limited; however, it comes with an upgraded engine (a 3.7L twin-independent Variable Cam Timing V6), a six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission with paddle activation, sport tuned suspension and 22-inch polished aluminum wheels.
Ford debuted the Ford Edge HySeries at the Washington DC Auto Show in 2007 as a concept vehicle. This concept Ford Edge is a hybrid electric vehicle utilizing hydrogen fuel and a chargeable lithium-ion battery pack.
